One of my customers wants 12 ft of aluminum metal clad cable to connect a battery charger to the power source. He also wants the cable to terminate in a Hubble type 3-phase, 4-wire plug. The three conductors and the ground wires in the cable are #10 and the source is 480 V AC. Is this allowed by the Code?

Thanks,

Jose

The charger input is 480 3-phase. The customer wants to plug the charger to a wall outlet via an aluminum metal clad cable.

Re: Armored cable

Ah, OK. No, MC cable is not listed for that use and I certainly wouldn't use it that way. I assume he is concerned about damage. I can tell you that a severe- use rubber covered cord will outlast that MC many times over, it crushes very easily. Roll something over that MC (or even step hard or bend it sharp) and it's history as well as a danger. That's 480 volts!
