We are installing armored(flex)fiber in cable tray under a computer floor in a data center. The foreman says to bond the jacket @ both ends. Will this create ground loops through the existing equipment / cable tray?

Re: Armored Fiber Optic Cable

Depends on if you are using an isolated ground plane or not. If it is IGP then it makes a difference. If it is not IGP, then it does not make a bit of difference.

Re: Armored Fiber Optic Cable

What do you mean by isolated? We install Iso gnd recepts in data centers where the 3rd prong of the recept is bonded as far upstream as possible... the raisd computer floor is bonded to the main grounding bar of the computer room.

Thanks-
Bryan

Re: Armored Fiber Optic Cable

I forgot to mention, the cable tray is mounted/bonded to the existing raised floor as well.

Re: Armored Fiber Optic Cable

IGR has nothing to do with isolated ground plane. Your site is configured as integrated ground plane. Makes no difference where or how many times you bond the armour with integrated ground planes.
