In article 320.23 A, could you give some clarification on this section of the code. The question that you include in the Mike Holt curriculum seems to me to be confusing the issue. The way I read this section the 7 ft high protection rule applies to the entire attic when there are permanant stairs. Whereas the protection is only required within 6 ft of the access in an inaccessable attic. Is this correct?
Thanks, TDK

Your interpretation is correct. If you access the attic by portable means, protection only required within 6' of the access point. If you access the attic by permanent means, protection required throughout the entire attic where the cable is meets the installation as described in the section.
