Art 330.30 (D)(2) MC connectors MUST BE LISTED FOR SUPPORT per AHJ ????!!!! MC, above a suspended ceiling going into fixtures I read as 6' from the fixture is OK. our lovely AHJ has requested us to show that the MC connector (C510) is LISTED for use as support. 1st to code does not ask for this listing that I can see? And who else is really strapping MC 12" from every can/ troffer??? !!! If I put in this many more grid wires, were gonna have to jam 4/4's up against the deck to keep it from bowing! Also if this is a hard lid on grid (dry wall grid) can it be considered accessible as the can JB itself is considered so..( thru dropping the can)

He needs to read that section again, it says nothing about a listing just that generic MC connectors can be considered a means of cable support.

330.30(D) Unsupported Cables. Type MC cable shall be permit-
ted to be unsupported where the cable:
(1) Is fished between access points through concealed
spaces in finished buildings or structures and support-
ing is impractical.
(2) Is not more than 1.8 m (6 ft) in length from the last
point of cable support to the point of connection to
luminaires or other electrical equipment and the cable
and point of connection are within an accessible ceil-
ing. For the purpose of this section, Type MC cable
fittings shall be permitted as a means of cable support.

Hi... well that is how I see it as well. So then if this is a hard lid (drywall ceiling) can that portion of the ceiling be considered "accessible" (the MC connectors installed in the can light J boxes) as the can J box has to be accessible (as all must be) and is so by dropping the can hood itself, per the (D) art of this art which allows this only in said "accessible" ceilings?
