Artical 517, Patient Care Facility, Wiring Method

Eye doctors office, eye exam rooms, are they considered a patient care area requiring the use of "Healthcare Facilities Cable" or is standard MC cable acceptable?

Does the eye doctor perform eye surgeries and procedures or just prescribe glasses and contacts?

If there is no patient care treatment or examination other than to prescribe glasses or contacts IMHO I would not classifiy it as a health care facility.

Ditto.....what do the plans state for those rooms?

I say if the plans do not state to wire per NEC 517 then ask the local AHJ what they think. Maybe they will determine that you need to utilize HG wiring and devices. Which, in turn, becomes a change order in your pocket.
