Under (C)2 Large Equipment, if you want to have only 1 egress, you have two choices; a) unobstructed egress and b) the double the distance rule.
My question is about "a)". In the code handbook Exhibit 110.21 depicts this option. But even though this diagram is not dimensioned, it certainly looks like the distance from the gear to the door is more than 4 or 5 feet. Let's say the equipment is 480/277 so we can use the under 600V row of the table, if the dimension from the front of the gear to the door as shown in this exhibit is 4 feet, would that be acceptable.
Or does there have to be room to leap back outside of the work clearance area and then shuffle over to the middle of the wall where the door is.
