I haven't done any residential work for a long time so here is my question..

210.12 A 1 states a listed combo AFCI installed to provide protection to entire circuit. They do not specifically mention breaker here. There is no mention about the length of branch circuit.

210.12A 3 and 4 mention AFCI breaker and device combinations but specifically mention maximum branch circuit lengths for #12 and #14 wiring. What would you do if home runs were more than 70 and 50 ft? Upsize the home runs?

I thought you can just use an AFCI breaker at the origin of the circuit and it would satisfy 210.12.

Thank you in Advance!!!!

A--1 notes the arc-fault circuit interrupter is to provide protection for the entire branch circuit and, since the branch circuit originates at the over-current device, a AFCI (or dual function) is the only device that would satisfy this method,.

A-2 and A-3 call for "listed combinations" and, to my knowledge, there are none.

Great. So if I use an AFCI breaker I'm ok. What about the length on the home runs?
There is nothing that limits the length of the home run or the circuit, unless the instruction for the afci state a length. I have not heard that that was the case.
