When you have a 25kw rating on an electric range you refer to Table 220.19 Note 1.

Step 1 Computing the percentage
25kw - 12kw = 13kw
13kw x 5% = 65%

Step 2 Computing the kva
8kw x 165% = 13.2kva

I do not understand where the 165% came from in Step 2. I would appericate your help with this so I can continue with my studying.

Thanks,

David Hendley

You derived the 165%, so I do not understand what it is that you don't understand. You start with 8KW, then,
  • Add 5% of that value (or 0.4 kw) for the first extra KW (i.e., above 12), then
  • Add 5% more (another 0.4 kw) for the second extra KW (i.e., above 12), then
  • Add 5% more (another 0.4 kw) for the third extra KW (i.e., above 12), then
  • Add 5% more (another 0.4 kw) for the fourth extra KW (i.e., above 12),
and you keep going until you reach the 13th extra KW. When you are done, you will have added 65% of 8KW (or 13 times 0.4 KW) to the original 100% of 8KW, for a total of 165% of 8KW, which equals 13.2 KW.
