I am currently enrolled in Texas State Technical College in Abilene, TX, pursuing my A.A.S. Degree in Electrical Power and Controls. I was taking my Article 342-366 Quiz and ended up missing 1 question, that I thought I answered correctly, I looked it up in the NEC 2020 Book, highlited it and everything, I was still wrong though according to when the test was graded. Haven't been able to have my Professor help me yet, he has been busy. I am wondering if any of you might know tbe answer? I am thinking that the answer is now "c. Either a or d" but I am not sure? Originally I answered a. I referenced Liquid tight flexible metal conduit and it referred me to, NEC 2020 250.118(6)(E) and that is where I thought I had found the right answer, being "a"?

Where flexibility _____, liquidtight flexible metal conduit shall be permitted to be used as an equipment grounding conductor when installed in accordance with 250.118(6).
Select one:
a. is required after installation
b. is not required after installation
c. either a or d
d. is optional

I hate test questions, and this seems like another poorly worded question. The intent may be "b", but that kind of strange as it has a circular answer (the preface relates to 250.118(6)(e)). It could also be "c", but that's a weird answer as logically the two answers "a" and "b" cancel out and you can basically delete the whole preface clause.

The question could be better worded in the negative as I think it forces the answer to "a" - Where flexibility _____, liquidtight flexible metal conduit shall not be permitted to be used as an equipment grounding conductor.

Or if they really want you to learn, the question could be "Liquidtight flex metal conduit can be used as an equipment grounding conductor when ___"
a. You follow all the rules of 250.118(6).
b. It isn't subject to flex after install.
c. It is used in lengths under 6'
d. When its a ground electrode conductor.

That is pretty standard test language.

Ive taken a lot of tests, GC, EC, EMT, Commercial driving, FCC, and on and on.

Seems like every couple months I go take another test to maintain my credentials. 🙄

Im beginning to think I’m not actually good at anything except taking tests. 😳

But that is how most tests are written. They are designed, worst case scenario to trip you up, and best case scenario, to force you to really think and decipher the meaning, instead of memorizing test answers.

Just my 2 cents.

I completely agree with you, and I would've much preferred your question over their's. Your question doesn't have conflicting answer choices.
