Article 350 LFMC

We have a differing opinion here. The situation is that a sign contractor used LFMC w/listed fittings as a pigtail from a j-box to the sign. It was adequately supported and not subject to damage. One side feels LFMC may be used anywhere conduit is needed (exposed to the elements) as long as the above conditions are met. The other side feels that LFMC is intended only for machinery etc. that needs flexibilty to movement and liquids/chemicals. The code does not seem to be black and white to support the first argument. The manufacturer's specs do seem to support the first side.

2008 NEC 350.30 (A) & (B) indicates you can use it about anywhere as long as you secure and support to code.

The only issue I could see is if the LFMC is install inside a ceiling that is a plenum. I don't have a book but my guess is that it cannot be installed there.

That's the rub. The only permissive statement (350.10) is "protection from liquids". The pro side hangs their hat on the fact that it's safe from 350.12. The handbook's commentary states "use in wet locations", which is clearer but not the code.

It is interesting that 350.10 does not state wet location however the product is called liquid tight flexible metal conduit. Some of it is listed for underground so we know it is listed for wet location.
