Thanks in advance for your insight. I have a fixture that has been rejected in a clothes closet space because the glass is open at the bottom exposing the incandescent lamp. If I change the lamp to flourescent I can have the open glass as long as it meets the clearance from the clothes hanging racks?

thanks

Yes if you change the entire luminare to a surface mount flour., I would venture to say his issue is that your INC. lamp is not 12" from the shelf space.....and doing a Flour. would reduce it to 6" and tha may give you the clearance you need.

Plus the Inc light was not enclosed...

(C) Location. The minimum clearance between luminaires
installed in clothes closets and the nearest point of a storage
space shall be as follows:

(1) 300 mm (12 in.) for surface-mounted incandescent or
LED luminaires with a completely enclosed light
source installed on the wall above the door or on the
ceiling

(2) 150 mm (6 in.) for surface-mounted fluorescent luminaires
installed on the wall above the door or on the
ceiling

(3) 150 mm (6 in.) for recessed incandescent or LED luminaires
with a completely enclosed light source installed
in the wall or the ceiling

(4) 150 mm (6 in.) for recessed fluorescent luminaires installed
in the wall or the ceiling [ROP 18-60]

Hope this helps......FYI this is from the 2008 NEC...

FYI- I was refering to removing the luminare and replaceing with a Flour. Strip.....lol...Thanks Carroll..;)

I think I said that carroll...when i said his issue is probably with the open bulb...lol.....

Plus the Inc light was not enclosed...

The info regarding Flourescent lighting does not bare the same statement of "Enclosed", I am not sure if he asked if he could replace the bulb with a Flour. replacement CF bulb......maybe I read it wrong....sorry...I was more so commenting on him installing a surface mount Flour. Strip to meet the 6" clearance and be done with it.

Ahh...I did read it wrong...lol.....he DID indeed want to replace the "LAMP" only......I concur that would not solve his issue.

remove the Luminare and install a surface mount Flour. strip...lol...if you at that point will have 6" clearance.

gotcha brother....actually you read it correct...I totally MISSED the point of him wanting to just replace the "LAMP"........I need more coffeeeeeee....lol

I thought he just wanted to know WHAT to do to get it compliant and get his final...

Guess I was looking for the SIMPLE approach to him getting the final and moving on...lol.....

Love this forum.......sometimes reading between the lines on posts are the hardest things to do...
