Article 500 states that when using explosion proof fitting and imc rmc you need 5 full threads to engage or 4.5 threads if its factory threads. Does this also apply to no explosive fittings with imc rmc?

I’m assuming you are citing Subsection 500.8(E)(1) and its Exception. Reread it in context of the master Section [500.8(E)].

Thank you but the question was if the 5 threads on rmc imc applied to application all other-applications other than article 500 and explosion proof connectors.

I understood your question - did you understand that the 5 (or 4.5 Exception) thread engagement only applies to explosionproof entrances. Other threaded connections are required to be “wrenchtight” per Section 500.8(E). Technically, “wrenchtight” applies to 5 or 4.5 engaged threads too; the minimum required number of engaged threads is an additional requirement for explosionproof entrances. That’s what I meant by reading Subsection 500.8(E)(1) in context of 500.8(E).

After rereading and ruminating on your first response, I realize I indeed may not have understood your actual question. In that case, I point you to Section 500.1 which indicates the requirements of Article 500 are only strictly applicable to Articles 500 to 504. If the thread engagement requirements were general for RMC/IMC, they would appear in Articles 344 or 342 respectively.
