I have a question concerning installing
a TEFC motor in a Class 1 Div. II groups C&D
location. It is a 3C/w gnd cable installed in
cable tray going from the Class 1 Div II location
to a non - hazardous location. There is conduit from the tray to motor. Do I need a seal-off installed at the motor location?

514-7 1999 514.9 2002 NEC Sealing

I believe you are required to have a sealoff on both sides of this conduit. The object is to minimize the likelihood of hazardous gases migrating to non hazardous locations.

Re: Article 501

Dan,
The motor does not require a seal. A seal is required at the classification boundaries. See 501.5(B). (B)(1) applies to the motor and (B)(2) applies to the boundry.
