Article 517.18 question

I would appreciate a bit of other persons opinions on this. We are designing for a remodel on a children's health clinic, and I have specified for tamper resistant receptales for the procedure rooms. I have been met with two different responses, #1 is that I haven't met the intent of the code by not placing them in the exam rooms, however the other, by the state of Michigan is that I am overkilling, and tamper resistant isn't required for a clinic. I would like to hear opinions. Thanks

In general, I usually put them anywhere where children might be left alone.

I would not usually put them in a procedure room, because I would not expect a child to be left there alone.

The actual code lists specific areas in "pediatric wards". In general, I think a "ward" is an area of a hospital, or an area where children would stay overnight or longer. Normally, in an outpatient clinic, children would be supervised by their parents or someone else. So I would be less likely to include tamper proof outlets in a outpatient clinic.

Granted, I would tend to agree, we usually don't put them in for a clinic, not sure why this time we are getting all of the guff over it. There isn't a place that I would consider an area a child would be left alone to their own devices, the procedure room was a requirement due to being told that they have left children in there while waiting for novacaine or other locals to take effect.
