When rebuilding the service (new meter socket and transfer switch) at an active dairy farm would you expect to see overcurrent protection added for the existing underground feeds? This farm has an overhead triplex to the house and underground 3wire to the dairy barn and 2 other buildings. The transfer switch is a Rink with an off position.

I'd sure think so, I know we'd do it if we we're upgrading the service. We probably wouldn't pass inspection otherwise, not something you want to take a chance on....

This can open a can of worms. Will the AHJ now feel you have moved the service disconnect to the pole? Do you now have to install a 4th wire and change all the bonding?
