Article 670 Industrial Machinery, OCPD , NEC2014

As I read 670.4(C) - Nameplate, Over Current Protection:

- Para 1 makes sense - If machine is self-protected at supply terminals, supply conductors may be treated as feeder or taps (taps being protected the OCPD at the machine supply connection). Taps as allowed by 240.21.
- Para 2 "The rating or setting of the OCPD supplying the machine..." leaves me confused - seems to define a max rating for OCPD ahead of the machine where the machine is self-protected (refers to BCPD supplied with the machine) as allowed in Para 1. Says max OCPD supplying machine is = BCPD + 1.25*Sum(FLA resistive) + Sum(FLA motor and other).
- Para 3 then explains OCPD rating where the machine is not self-protected - referring to 430.52 and 430.53.

I am thinking it either Para 1 or Para 3 applies.

Here is my question:
*** What is the purpose of Para 2? I am thinking the OCPD protecting the machine is the BCPD (likely this is my mistake). ***

Also: 670.4(C) references 240.21; 240.21(A) references 210.20; 210.20(C) references 240.3 and 240.3 references 670. !REF
