Let's assumed your going to do a supplied side connection. However, on his article his comment is "tapping this internal conductor or bus bar in a listed device such as a meter/ main combination would violate the listing and should not be done" How would you let that fly?
And no! you dont have a other option for a load side connection...

You will need to have the equipment field evaluated after you've altered it. I believe that is what Wiles mentions.
