Having a problem interpreting 700-10-D(1) in the 2011 edition which relates to where 2 hr wiring is required. Shafts and spaces above hung ceiling are not typicaly sprinklered and where the majority of feeders and branch circuits are installed. Starting from this base that emergency feeders are routed above ceiling and in shafts that are not sprinklered, I have the following question:

1. Does the 2 hr requirement for the feeder from the generator to the first ATS or first emergency distribution board or is it the entire wiring distribution from generator down to the branch circuit wiring to light fixtures, outlets, etc.

Thanks.

Assuming that you are subject to Sub-section D, it would include all parts of the emergency feeder(s), from generator to the final panelboard(s), but not the branch-circuits, other than those to control the generator. The raceway(s) could be boxed-in by gypsum wallboard above the ceiling, or MI cable could be used.
