Is a blue hose connecting a PLC network be considered a Class 1, 2, or 3 circuit?

Does the separations described in article 725.55 void the cable insulation requirements in 300.3?

PLC interconnect cables are more likely
"communication" rather than "power limited" circuits.

It is a communication cable... does that mean it does not fall under the 725 article. What makes a cable power limiting?

Power limiting refers to the power source as well as the cable/wiring. Power limited circuits are inherently safe, in regards to starting fires and electrocution.

In my opinion Art 725 does not apply to PLC communications circuitsnor to "ethernet" cabling.

Art 725 applies to computer interconnect wiring and Art 800 applies to telephone network wiring. For more information see Mike Holts Understanding Low Voltage and Limited Energy Systems

The cable insulation requirements in 300.3(C) don't apply to Art 725, due to section 90.3 725 requires seperation.

I am not sure what class of circuit the AB blue hose is.

mvillar,

this is a loaded question. while the communications line is not a power class circuit,
the question is whether the communications circuit meets the intrensically safe requirements.
i would have a pe check this out. what is your application? this may help.

Re: article 725.55

Tom,
If data cables are an Article 725 installation, why are the cables listed as type "CM", not type "CL"? "CM" is the cable type specified in Article 800 and "CL" is the type listed in Article 725. The "CL" is followed by a "2" or a "3" for the Article 725 class.

Re: article 725.55

I have always used the blue house as communications wiring. This includes jobs stamped by a PE and it never came back as needing to be changed to class 2 or class 3. I would suggest contacting A-B tech support and asking them.
