I am studying Mc Graw Hill National electric code book 2008. With Mike holt's on-line quizzes and 10 q. test. I also downloaded the 3 part test prep. Do I need an actual NEC.
McGraw and Hill is missing 310-16 and many other tables.
I am lacking to find any x-cross sectional #s on bare wire.
Is a NEC supplied at the test???I heard they are!!! Is It True???
Is it complete????
Whats my future with PSI Scotts blvd.Santa Clara???
My McGraw and hill book is flagged to the hilt!
Should i be flagging a NEC instead ie: getting to know it, love it , sleep it, dream it,,>>>>

Prep info experience "general" needed..
Thanx!

Hmmmm.... '08 book full of flags and it for some reason lacks such an important table?????

An '02 NFPA 70 NEC softcover book is supplied for the test, as that is what is tested. (Reguardless of it no longer being the basis of the '07 CEC....)

I took my test with a different company and over 6 years ago - at the time - no other testing materials, books, cell phones, or programable calculators were allowed - which made any flags or re-arrangement of the code book of your own useless....

That it seems it has changed little.... See upper right of page 5 (of the pdf or 4 if you print it) about what you can and can not bring in.

As far as I know your code book is also not allowed as one is provided - your would be a "personal Item" (and a different code cycle than being tested.)

I have quite a bit of advice on the topic posted in a number of other threads here on this forum and elsewhere.

Some other threads.... Of the same subject

As one can see these questions come up a bit....

I'm going to PM you both - I would love to get a written critique of the test - not of questions or answers - but of the experiance and what you thought was helpfull. It has been a pet subject for me, and I often answer questions about here and in other places. Since it has changed a little, and it has been some time since I took mine I would like to get a fresh prospective. (open to anyone else too.)

:) They provide you with a clean code book when you sit for the exam. Don't fixate on the calculations, if there are any on your exam they should be simple Ohm's law questions.

As for the study guides, just use any study guide that makes you use the code book. You will be tested on the 2002 edition of the NEC so that's the one that you should use to prep.

The best preparation for this test is to be able to navigate the codebook with ease, know where to find things and be able to carefully read questions. It is not a "tricky" test. :D:D:D
