Asked to bid an ARCO remodel here is what i was sent

I was sent the drawings which include a tittle sheet, architectural and canopy. No E sheets panel schedules no spec no nothin nadda.

Copied email from GC

"Scope of work includes???"

"Replace 33 light lens and lamps in 2x4 fixtures.
Provide wire and install temp power to Kiosk in front of store.
Supply and install power pole for Condiment Island.
Supply and install one 208v outlet for Deli case.
Disconnect power and data from existing cashier counter.
Supply and install under-slab conduits to new cashiers counter.




Project starts on Nov 23 and completes Dec. 11 I also have another Arco in Stockton starts the same day."


Im just amazed with the lack of info..sorry had to vent!

My reply was:
1. Replace 33 light lens and lamps 2X4 fixtures
A. Light lens Spec?
B. Owner Supplied?
C. Lamp Spec
D. Owner Supplied?

2. Temp power to Kiosk
A. Kiosk Load / Spec?

3. Power Pole to Condiment Island Spec Sheet?
A. Circuit Size
B. Voltage
C. Panel Schedule

4. 208VAC Deli Case Outlet
A. Current Size?


5. Disconnect power and data from (e) cashier counter
A. Demo Circuit to panel?


6. Supply and install under-slab conduits to new cashier counter
A. Conduit QTY?
B. Conduit Size?
C. Circuit Size?
D. Slab Cut / GC or Sub?
E. Slab repair GC or Sub?
F. Panel Schedule?



Notes: Air Curtain Power, Fuel Equipment Relocation, Exit Signage, No E-Drawings, Fixture Schedule, Panel Schedules.

Looks like you have your list to ask the right questions. You must be like me I know very close to what I am going to make when the job is complete. In fact I must know.

Sometimes I think these people do it on purpose. why I dont know. unless there looking for gut shot price and hope its right in where they magically dreamed up what they think the job was going to be. People amaze me with there estimating skills and they have never even done electrical work remember that.

Make them sign something so you can eat while consulting these dummies.

Bill them hourly, even for office work and pulling a file when they call.

They may be speculating and not even have funding.

IMO, Don't waist your time unless you are paid.

Sometimes I think the Responsible Design Professional chooses not to employ a consultant for the portions of the project that require more specific drawings, such as the electrical drawings. Have seen many times where an owner or architect has done this and then got into trouble or Code Review problems and asked my company to help bail them out with some quick drawings that were needed yesterday. You have every right to vent and it appears that your list asks all the right questions ... maybe the response will include drawings.
