I have assisted living two floor. Second floor is all assisted living. The first floor east wing has memory care unit and first floor west wing has assisted living. Both assisted living and memory care units have beds some have kitchen. The first floor west wing there are two separate rooms that are exam rooms but those are in assisted living.
The memory care is classified as I-2 while assisted living classified as I-1.

My questions are following:
1. Would the beds in assisted living be considered patient bed location or not? Definition of patient bed location is confusing NEC 2017 Article 517.2 says patient sleeping bed
2. Would the beds in memory care units be considered patient bed location or not? Definition of patient bed location is confusing NEC 2017 Article 517.2 says patient sleeping bed
3. Would the memory care units be considered patient care space or not?
4. Would the assisted living units be considered patient care space or not?

It's a joke about it being a memory care unit.

I would look at the definitions of patient bed location, patient care space and Category 1 space in article 110. I think it would depend on what equipment is hooked up to those locations and whether people are going to be examined/treated in those areas or only in the exam rooms.

That can only be determined by the health care facilities governing body. They are responsible for that determination and NFPA 99 leaves it totally up to the facility's governing body as they are the ones that know exactly what services are provided.

I wired an Assisted living Memory Care similar to what you have described. Neither was considered a patient care. In fact we had a couple of nurses stations with a bed for a 'patient'.
IMO The memory care could be a toss up. But the assisted living tennants, they are not patients. That's their apartment. Some of them still drive.
