I have assisted living which has kitchenett, living room, one bedroom, bathroom. There is no provision for cooking only microwave circuit.

Questions are under NEC 2014:

1. Is AFCI required? If yes then under which code article? If no then why?
2. Is tamper resistant receptacle required?
3. Would this sort of assisted living be defined as dorm, hotel motel guest suites, dewelling unit?

If it doesn't have what defines a kitchen, then it's not a dwelling unit. Without knowing more, I would tend to classify it as a guest sweet. As such, AFCI and tamper resistant receptacles would be required per 210.12 (C) and 406.12 respectively. If it's not in a hotel or motel, then it would put it in a dormitory category. As such, the requirements apply.

Kitchenette has refrigrator receptacle, microwave receptacke, sink. The assisted living has living room, bedroom, bathroom.

No defintion of dorm in NEC 2014. Dorm is defined in dictonary as sleeping rooms only with common shared bathroom. Assisted living unit has its own private bathroom. So how can it be dorm?

As far as guest suites NEC 2014 Article 210 does not have provision for AFCI. Nec 2014 Article 406.12(B) says Guest Rooms and Guest Suites of Hotels and Motels to be tamper resistant receptacle. Assisted living usually have staff that monitor dont they? Assisted living is not like hotel or motel is it?

Assisted living is kind of a different animal because it doesn't really fit into anything. I've seen different jurisdictions treat them different ways. Might be worth a contact to the AHJ for a classification.

hhsting,
Where you able to find out more about your question? I am curious as I came across a similar situation and I am not familiar with assisted living facilities. I am following NEC 517.40 for limited care facilities but that doesnt include receptacles...
Project is in MD and Virginia as well...
