Hey all, wondering if anybody has a link to help me out. I'm looking for an audible circut identifier. Not the typical tracer but just the simple device you plug into a recep that makes a noise until you shut off the right breaker....Yes I know a radio works too but don't feel like lugging a radio around room to room. I've seen them before a long time ago. I just can't seem to find them online now. Thanks.

Home depot has this one and a couple of others, southwire also makes a similar product if this is what you are asking for, it send an rf signal down line to breaker. I have a southwire that works fairly well, just a mwbc will give some false positive but if not critical circuits not so much a problem, better than trial and error. I've used mine also to find first and last outlet in run of room, as it will only signal in one direction only, back to breaker.

Any idea how it manages the one-way transmission with just a plug-in transmitter?

Not sure the how or why, never even looked into how or why, now you got me curious, all I know is when for example say I had a 3 Receptacle circuit, R1 to R3, R1 being first inline from panel (unknown at time) , I can plug into R2, test at R3- no signal test at R1- signal, plug in R3, Test at R1- signal, test in R2- signal, plug in R1 test R2- no signal test R3- no signal, test from all three to panel- signal . I don't know if it is marketed that way just know from numerous trials it has proved out. Was it a fluke? Could be, but each time was able to locate the last receptacle that held only 1 pair of conductors (end of run). Used to locate last in run to add another receptacle without overloading box fill. Come to think of it, it also doesn't test on a pigtail receptacle or on plugged in device unless it is turned on.???
This is unlike my Fox and Hound that will tone in every direction, up and down stream even behind closed wall, or barried (also useful).

Pig tailed receptacles only tests back to panel haven't been able to detect on other receptacles in same line.

A simple 3" piece of wire you can carry in your pocket.
Just insert 1 end into the hot and the other end into the neutral side of the receptacle,,, it will snap, crackle and pop until it shuts off the correct breaker on its own,,,,, just kiddin.
