I drilled into a plaster wall in a customer's condo 11 times. The 12th time I partially severed a bx cable. The drilled hole acted as a barrel to direct the sparks out horizontally. Very impressive. . .
Supposedly the varying density of plaster makes most wire finders unreliable.
Does anyone know of a commercially available device that shuts off an electric drill if you hit metal?
And, is anyone interested in a free, untested schematic for one of these shutoff gadgets that acts in a few milliseconds if the drill bit hits a grounded or energized (at 120v) conductor? Parts cost from Hosfelt.com or a similar place is about $20, and labor to assemble, troubleshoot & test is probably a few hours. (I'm not affiliated with Hosfelt).
