Automatic battery charger

Hello friends, i'm current building the automatic battery charger with the following components: 3.3k resistor, 1k resistors, LED (red and green), 12vdc relay (with 5 pins), BC547 transistor, a 10k trimpot and a diode. The circuit worked and suddenly stops, where could i have gone wrong with the wiring? Or any idea of the other simple charger with different components that i can use?

I'm as well trying to build an automatic changeover switch using 555 timer, how can i achieve this?

I got my trickle charger from my neighborhood Advanced Auto down on the corner. Actually I have three one for my tractor, my motorcycle and an onboard charger for my boat, They all cut on and off automatically.
