We are looking at a project that will add load to an existing switchboard after the automatic transfer switch. The load is not to be on generator power nor will the generator handle the added load. There is no normal only distribution system. Per the 2017 NEC 702.4(B)(2), it sounds like this is allowed if automatic load management. However, what qualifies as automatic load management? Can it be a phase loss relay or a signal from the transfer switch when it transfers to trip the breaker on the new load (shunt trip breaker)?
