Automatic Transfer Switch

has anyone installed one of these yet?...i'm having trouble trying to visualize how the install will go....it seems like it would look horrible, if you mount it between the meter and the main breaker panel on the outside of the house..anybody have any pictures of their installs?

If it will be between the meter and main panel, if there is no main in the meter, then the transfer switch will have to be service rated.

right....in this case, the main breaker panel is below the meter...can run the the se wires through the panel and into the ats, then back into the main breaker panel?...i doubt you can use the panel as a raceway, right?...it says that the wires for the gen can be in the same enclosure, box, etc as the house wiring

Service wire need to terminate in a disconnect as close as possible to entering the building.

Service conductors and non-service conductor can not occupy the same raceway,cable or conduit. See 230.7

Flex 90 terminates at brick, straight through wall and into panel, no silicone or anything.
You can see daylight out the back of the inside panel.
This was inspected and passed in Baton Rouge

thanks jason, just trying to get an idea...it seems like there is no good way to make the install look good on existing work

Unless your an electrician all electrical work looks bad. It might look impressive, but most of the time most people don't want to have to see it

Personally I'd rather place the transfer switch inside as to minimize outdoor exposure to the electronic components.

No! The wires should hit the main breaker before hitting the T/S, not after, so you shouldn't need a service-rated T/S. You'd need a new main disco if yours was in the panel.

You should move the panel conductors from the main disco to the T/S's output terminals, and install new conductors from the main disco load terminals to the T/S's service terminals.

Is it necessary to pick up the entire house? If not, you may want to consider breaking out a sub-feed to the ATS and feed a sub-panel for the essential circuits. That way you could place it in the basement out of sight.
