I don't know if this is the right place for this question but perhaps someone would be interested in educating me a little.

I keep running into the word "autotransformer" and I find that I am a little unsure on the subject. Would someone be so kind as to explain the basic difference between an autotransformer and an isolation transformer? I understand so far that an autotransformer does not provide isolation between primary and seconday because the transformer is composed of a single winding. I'm having difficulty understanding how this works.

Appreciate your help,

Bob

Thank you Jim.

That was just what I was looking for! I had been searching the net for just such a document and was coming up empty.
