Avoid derating the main breaker?

In a solar design, can you tap at the meter to avoid derating the main breaker? The system backfeed needed is 80 amps and the panel is a 200/200, providing only 40 amps. Can I tap at the meter?

This is called a supply side connection or informally a supply side tap. See 705.11 in the 2020(NEC) or 705.12(A) in earlier versions.

Generally you can tap at the meter only if the manufacturer provides appropriate lugs, which is unusual. You can tap between the meter and main if they are connected by field-installed conductors. Factory meter/main combos generally do not allow this.
