Ax Throwing Facility NEC

In the throwing area I would think any wire method would be "subject to severe physical damage"!!!
I'd use IMC or RMC in that area.

Hello All,

What, if any, special requirements would there be in the NEC regarding and Ax Throwing Facilty?

Thank you.

You couldn't find the "Ax Throwing Facility" chapter?

Weirdly enough, it's tucked in there by the pool and hot tub articles. Just keep looking, you'll find it.

I think the most Bizarre NEC article is 650, pipe organs. Maybe just once in my career Ill get to do some article 650 work.

I'll have to check that one out. I help maintain a facility (actually a local residence) that maintains two complete working theatre pipe organs: the Barton that came out of the Chicago Stadium, and the Roxy Theatre Kimball Organ. That's in addition the the collection of non-working or electronic consoles.

They were installed before I got involved, but I've helped maintain them for the past decade.

If anyone is in Vegas, and I'm available while you're here, I can arrange private tours of the residence and car collection.

If you are worried about damage, this is easy- just keep any electrical away from where the axes are going to land if possible, or use a method that is highly resistant to physical damage like the aforementioned rmc/imc.

Or does this have to with being a place of assembly as suggested by jumper?

Would be better if you would elaborate as to exactly what you want to know.:)

OK, I have to admit, I thought this was a troll posting, but it's a REAL THING!
Holy cow... what people won't do to get a thrill...

Now I want to find one though. :ashamed:

Google Ed Ames and the Tonight Show. :D

I think the conduit burial depths may need to be increased around the arena in case you miss the target and the axe sticks in the ground.

New by me too, so I Google searched the topic. Think indoor range with axes instead of guns:

Looking at this picture:

there doesnt appear to be any electrical in the actual (axe-ual? lol) throwing area, save for a pretty standard looking ceiling fan.

I'd say all electrical subject to strikes would need shielding, behind chain link or plywood like in the pic.

I'd use IMC or RMC in that area.

If you chucked an axe and it hit a piece of RMC, it could very well ricochet.

Hammer throwing in Scotland. Big uncle Alick was ace.

When I was training in Houston for my first real job as an oilfield mud engineer, my roommate was the Peruvian national hammer throwing champ. He was a real nice guy, barely spoke English, and a really good dude to have along with you cruising the bars.
