Customer is using a 500 KVA transformer and is taking it from 208 to 480 to feed several existing roof top units out of a four hundred amp 480 volt panel. He is about to add 800 amps of 208 load to his production line and is looking at a new 480 volt service.
He is aware that he will save on the installation cost if we feed that new load 480, but I am unable to show him the benefits of not back feeding the transformer. Does the power factor increase when you back feed a transformer? I know better power factor means more usable energy, witch means $$$ for him.
We would still feed his existing service with a transformer to take it from our new 480 to 208 But the lost wouldn't be a great as back feeding it a Transformer. Right?
