Hello!

i am a fresh US Based building design engineer. My problem when i started my first design is here....

* There is a grocery mall( 450 ft x 600 ft ) where i proposed 250 W metal hallide high bay fixture for internal lighting (work plane height is 6.2 meter height. what shall i do for lighting when power failure.(usually in india we are using D.G back up for some lights.
is it the same i can adopt for US project. Can any one explain what is US standard .

Thanks & regards

Take a look at the new flourescent high bays. Same looking fixture, but better light, less energy and you can switch some of the lamps. Check out this fixture.
You can get a battery back up for some of the lamps or wire some of them to a generator circuit. Since it is compact flourescent, no re-strike delay or extra quartz lamp to worry about.

Thanks a lot sceepe ,

But will it be the economical way ,Also as far your experience ,could you tell me about maintenance since it is having many lamps and ballast.

Thanks&regards again

Re: Back up for industrial lighting

Jeyakumar I agree with sceepe, metal Halides are out of fashion now in many locations such as you describe.

We have been ripping MHs out and replacing them with T-8 or T-5 HO fluorescents.

It is worth doing some more research on the options.

If you stick with the MHs you can get battery backed up ballasts for them or if a generator is involved you can order MH fixtures with a quartz re-strike lamp kit that will cover the re-strike time of the MH lamp.

Or you could go with entirely separate emergency battery units.

Re: Back up for industrial lighting

i will suggest that the cost wise that the new low/high bay floursecent lumiaires is best way to go now it do save more engery and also more even light spread out .

the cost ?? well it right on par with old MH HID system some case a little cheaper but there are quite few lighting manufacters do make low/high bay lumiaiares now days

most low/high bay floursecent have quite few ballast option there most common is 4 or 6 lamp verison useally have 1 or 2 ballast but genrally most will spec'ed with 2 ballast [ nice feture if you want to dim it during after hours or where you dont need all the light ].

just check out few manufacters i am sure they will help you with the design there

Merci, Marc
