I have a 200amp, 240/120 volt service and interested in installing a Generac back-up generator. I would like to install a 3R 200 amp service rated transfer switch. However, I would like to install a 13K generator (54.16 amps @240) and put 50 amp time delay fuses in. If power goes out and the generator kicks in, I won't use any high ampered appliances such as the stove, ac units, etc. I am trying to avoid installing an emergency back-up panel due to limited space and I don't feel like moving circuits around. Has anyone did an install like this?

If it is an automatic transfer, you may need to provide a switch that is sized at the full calculated load for the home depending on which edition of the NEC Article 702 is in your jurisdiction.

The ATS needs to be sized according to the Panel in your house if you don't want to build an emergency panel. So, if you have a 200amp main panel in your home, install a 200amp ATS.
