Has anybody worked with or have any ideas on backlighting an Onyx (Opaque) countertop in a kitchen. I have not worked with this type of application before and am looking for ideas. I am thinking maybe some type of LED wall washer or light tape or ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks........

it not easy and be careful extremely fragile counter tops.
You have to set up the cabinet for this also.
they have to build a box and I like to use t5 fl. to light it up.
I have tried rope lighting and led cause of replacement issue but t5 yield the best result good luck.

What do you mean by back lighting? Is that like under counter lights?
If so, I like Zeon. They are dimmable. I think what ever you use making it able to dimm makes for nice lighting at night esspecially.

Perhaps rope lighting can accomplish this.

I think he means a light under the COUNTERTOP. It will shine through the onyx. Or, in other words, the light will be inside the base cabinets. I'm dealing with a h/o who wants the same thing in her kitchen island.

I bet that is pretty at night. I have not seen this.

Here's a photo of one.

I bet you can accomplish this with a rope light or 2 small 50 watt floods in the base cabinet aimed at the counter.

I would not, however, feel very comfortable with open bulbs underneath but I see no code against it since it is not a clothes closet.

It would make the cabinet interior all but useless.

What they need is the same kind of backlighting an LCD TV uses.

I bet the bottom of that cabinet has one roll of toilet paper. The floods could be mounted up high as well as the rope lighting. The bottom still could be used.

I did an install with rope similar to this. The difference was they had a stained glass door on the cabinet doors. Nothing was put inside the cabinet. It was for guest and strictly for show. ;)

I did a high end restaurant recently and the led lighting was big bucks for the 3 form countertop. I found it was best to deal with the countertop manufacturer and a lighting rep and set up a project meeting, to get the advice and experience from both parties to get it done right the first time.
