Somewhere recently, I saw reference to a backstabbed twistlock receptacle in various volt/amp varieties. I am searching through my journals & e mails but haven’t found it yet.

Has anyone else seen such an article? I would love it if it were just a bad dream. The last thing we need is expanded backstabbing and into higher voltages. Backstabbing is one of the worst things this industry has ever done, IMHO.

I thinking that no such thing exists. Backstabbing (using the spring loaded clip inside of a hole) is only permitted on devices using #14 AWG conductors so that would limit the backstabbing to 15 amp receptacles. I guess that it is possible for 15 amp devices only.

I don't think I've seen a twistlock device recently (20+ years) that wasn't backwired.
I don't think I have ever seen twist lock type that wasn't "back wired" using either compression plate or lug for securing. But never simply "pushed in" and held by spring pressure.

I probably saw an ad after midnight sometime, when I was too tired to get the details. 🤣

To me a critical distinction is whether the stripped end of the wire is straight or has to be curled around a screw, under the screw head.
Most if not all cord end receptacles and plugs these days are backwired, especially in larger wire sizes. The outer alternative is screws on the surface of the device core.

No problem as long as the wire is clamped well & not merely squeezed.

The only one I've ever seen is by this company.

Spring-clamp principle | Bals

I think they are only CE rated at the moment. Oh and not twist-lock. I don't know of any US manufacturers making this style of device.
These are more like the Wago connector than a US backstab. A separate operation is needed to apply spring pressure after insertion.
