Is it legal (or even good practice) to mix voltages on a contactor i.e. a six pole with five 277VAC lines and one 120VAC line ?
 
It is perfectly legal and IMO not unsafe. Many multiple contactors for 277 volt lighting are supplied with 120 volt coils so you're already mixing the two voltages.

Sure: brown, orange, yellow, brown, orange, blue. :grin:

Larry, (and Edie) colors do not mean anything as far as voltage.
