Banned ringed meter cans

I had just changed an existing 100amp branch circuit panel and meter can to a 200amp ringed meter/main.
It passed inspection but when FPL came back for the reconnect FPL said it was a banned meter can.
The city inspector was unaware of this change and was a huge expense to eat.
Beware!

There could be multiple power companies in the area. But more likely the supply house just doesn’t know or care.

My supply houses still stock receptacle Mulberry covers with one screw and old fashioned outdoor weather resistant receptacle flap covers.

Not so much banned as not approved for use.
Each PoCo sets standards for what meter bases are allowed. In my area it MUST be a ring meter.

Yes, the same thing with inuse covers that now need to be extra Duty.
 
What ever type cash register (or enclosure) a utility wants is their business and we have no say in the matter.

Retired but like to add something. I always preferred to purchase my supplies at two nearby electrical supply houses. They notified me of a couple of code changes our city did ( no state license ). One was back in 1981 when they disallowed using aluminum ground wire on services. One had an older counter man who was an electrician for twenty years and I would ask him his option on how to do something. When I asked him how much a wiremold bender cost he told me to save my money and use a regular 1/2" EMT bender to make offsets in #500 wiremold. Whoever sold you this ringed style meter socket should have warned you about no longer be allowed by that electric utility company. My area sent to ring less maybe 30 years ago.

I agree. We have two POCO's in this area with different equipment requirements. The counter guy would always ask when buying a meter pan which POCO we were installing under. Now it's fairly easy to find a list on the POCO website of approved equipment before installation. I've even emailed them with the meter pan part number just to ensure that it was acceptable.
