Baptismal Tub

Would a Baptismal Tub in a church be considered the same as a Spa or Hot Tub? They are not listed in the Code.
Any comments would be helpful.

Additional information:
I should have included the following information. This tub has an electric heating element(208V. 1 phase) for the water and a small circulating pump(120V). As far as I know the water is not removed between use.

Is it a factory assembled unit? If not, it may fit the definition of a "permanently installed swimming pool". Note the definition at the begining of article 680...
"all pools installed inside of a building, regardless of water depth, whether or not served by electrical circuits of any nature".

Most requirements are probably stricter for a swimming pool than a spa or hot tub.

If you refer to the definitions of "pool" and "Permanently Installed Swimming, Wading, and Therapeutic Pools", it seems like a bathtub fits the definition of a permanently installed pool!!

Someone help me out here. A bathtub is obviously not a pool. What am I missing?

I'd argue that spiritually cleansing is not included in "theraputic pools".

In my church, the baptismal font is not large enough to fully immerse anyone over the age of 6. Babies are baptized by pouring handfuls of water over the head. So I would not call that item a ?pool,? per the Article 680 definition. However, the water can be heated, and there is a pump that circulates the water. So I really don?t know what rules would have applied when it was built (about 15 -20 years ago).

I'd probably call it a "fountain."

When I was baptized it was in a baptistery that was filled with a garden hose and drained after the services. At may current church you could do laps.

We are in Florida and ours is a fiberglass unit outdoors. It has a portable pump for moving the water with a 220 single phase heater external of the tub. The water is pumped out run thru the heater and pumped back into the enclosure.
Very old. Church is about 6 years old. Great people lotsa volunteers beautifull people. ;)

Gotta go with calling it a hot tub.Has heater and pump,just what else would you call it ? The reason of use has nothing to do with what it is

Wired a Church a few years ago had the same question called the AHJ and was told to treat it as a swimming pool but that may have been because of the size.It was 30' long and 15' wide with steps at either end to walk in,through and out the other end.About 4' deep.I would call the AHJ.Good luck.
