I cannot find a reference exactly to "baptistry pools". I am assuming it would probably fall under the section for "Spas or Hot tubs". The main difference I see is the length of a cord on a "cord and plug connection". Normally it would be 3 ft. long, but 680.42 (2) (2011 code) puts it at 15ft. All the other requirements, GFCI protection, outlets 6ft. away from inside walls, switches 5 ft. from walls etc. I see. The job I am bidding has just a heating element with controls that sets down in the water. It is 240 volts (30 amps) and plugs into an outlet. Any other ideas on this?? Thanks

The baptisteries I have done were done to Article 680 VI and VII. The inspectors I have dealt with have the same mind set on a Baptistery. Since it is used and drained it doesn't fall under pools or hot tubs.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can't see where 680 VI and VII deal with the cord length on "Cord and Plug connections". Have you had any dealings with that? Thanks

No, the pumps were hard wired with low voltage flow and water level switches. Read 680.71 and 680.73 It doesn't give you a cord length but a general rule for placement of a receptacle.
