I have a barndominium I have been asked to quote. It is a red iron metal building with wood stud walls and ceilings on a concrete slab. It is in the county so there are no local codes to deal with. My question is how do I decide what building type this is to know what type of wiring methods are acceptable? Would I need to use MC/EMT when I am in a metal framed portion then swap to romex in the living areas? Thanks for any help!

LOL.. Just left a meeting with building officials yesterday where they were perplexed as to how to handle barndomimiums in their Code
Although I would be tempted to wire it the way you suggested but barn critters such as rats won't stop at that division to "residential" so to be safe I'd likely follow 547.5.
If you are bidding you may be lucky enough not to get the job :)
(It may be covered by Liviticus 18.23 rather than NEC ;))

Probably considered type I construction.

It’s not so much a barndominium as just a metal building as a house. There is no barn part I am trying to upload rendering but my app is down.

This would be called a 'shouse' around here. Shed/house. They are considered residential buildings.

I looked into building one for myself. Half would have been a residence and the other half would have been my EC shop and offices.

Going back to medieval times, in the cities and towns, craftsmen had their shop on the lower floor and the family lived in the space above.
