does anybody know if a 2000 watt/240 volt heater would be enough to heat a two car garage with a 12 ft. ceiling in a chicago winter with no insulation on the garage door? if not does anybody know of a better and safer way than kerosene heaters?

Re: baseboard heaters

2000 watts would not likely even warm the heater.

Check with a HVAC contractor, and plan to start with a ceiing hung 10 KW heater or a gas fired unit.

Re: baseboard heaters

As A General Rule Of Thumb In An Office Building I Figure 35 To 40 BTU Per Square Foot. If We Carry This Rule Over To Your Two Car Garage It Will Be As Follows:
Garage 20' x 25' = 500 Square Feet
500SF * 40 BTU/SF = 20,000 BTU
20,000 BTU / 3.413 BTU/Watt = 5860 Watts

Since Your Garage Has No Insulation You Will Probably Need Something Greater Than This To Keep It Warm On Those Cold Windy Days.

Our supply houses will assist in sizing all electric heat to any given temperature, with any variables.I'm sure yours will do the same, they assume good salesman ship will pay off.
