Looking for ideas on a job. The customer wants receptacles mounted on concrete walls in basement but the entire basement walls are covered in a basement wrap type insulation with a white poly type outer cover. My idea was to stub conduit down behind the insulation to a box cut in the insulation and use a vapor barrier between box and wall and seal to the insulation. Anyone have any experience with this type of insulation.

Hmm. Perhaps no-one wants to address this due to the non-electrical issue which I think is very likely the cause for your concern, that it is the moisture which will be trapped behind the vapor barrier. Sound right? I can imaging anything ferrous fastened directly to the wall, behind the vapor barrier would not last long before it started falling victim to any moisture. I don't know the particulars, but what if you were to hang a support like a 2x4 down from the floor joists on the warm side of the vapor barrier and attach the wiring to that?

Fish flexible conduit or AC cable down the wall and mounted the boxes accordingly. This sounds like any other installation that places the wiring method behind the vapor barrier. Happens in single family all the time. If this is a commercial building, then NM cable would require a 15 minute barrier protecting it. At least that is how it would be addressed in my area.

Thankyou yea after thinking about it, but as electricians we should still have to be vigilant of other aspects of what we do as contractors in regards to the structure I just never ran into this type of insulation I googled it and its only been popular the last 4 years . I like that idea fasten the bottom of stud with a bracket. Thankyou very much
