Basic lighting design cad

I work in a consulting company in saudi, where i have to design basic lighting of small residential and commercial projects on CAD. I am looking for a complete guide to get the idea of spacing the lights as per their watts and other design stuff like exterior lighting etc. I know dialux is appropriate for such work but it takes a lot of time and we have don't have seen on giving so much importance on each project.

What is the best and quick procedure in designing the above said. And how the switches should be placed and basic circuit representation. I would like to get aware of new designs in this regard as well.

There's really no standard. Every light fixture is different in the way it delivers light, it's efficacy, etc. I would suggest using software and .ies files to figure your footcandles. Once you've been doing it for long enough you'll be able to lay something out without running the lighting calcs.

You could look at something like this or this. There are probably any number of software packages out there that are compatible with AutoCAD or other software. AutoCAD has some built in lighting tools if you are dealing with 3D models but I've never tried them.
