Basic Wiring Question

Excuse the bad drawing. Snip it tool only had pencil annotation. Anyway basic wiring question. Panel is right above( out of picture) where the blue and red scribble is at the top of page. Not electrician but since the two receptacles are fed from same circuit I think it would be more practical to wire as the blue line shows. Run a 12/2 from each receptacle to a box right by the panel and splice them circuits together there instead of running 12/2 from one receptacle to the other as shown in gray. Using more cable that way. Make sense? Thanks.

There's no one best answer. It depends on reasons to do or not do it one particular way or the other.

For example, there might be a good reason to have only one cable per outlet box, like limited space.

Or, there may be no convenient place to locate a junction box, perhaps because of the wall's finish.

You could simply run both cables to the panel; no J-box and the option of separate circuits later on.
