Basketball winch is rated for 115V, 3/4hp with key switch on wall for controller. The 2014NEC says I can use a properly rated snap switch. I am thinking about mounting the disconnect switch adjacent to the keyed controller.

I would appreciate your thoughts. I do not believe the key switch can serve as a disconnect.

You can do that but if the motor is up high I would install a motor rated snap switch at the motor in a 4" square box with an RS cover

Does the key switch directly control the motor? Does it qualify under the rules as a disconnect means?

If both can be answered yes than it is acceptable.

Only reason I can see why this control couldn't count as the required disconnect would be if it is more than 50 feet away or if one deems it isn't clearly marked to indicate on/off.

Switch mounted at motor if done that way would need to be 2 pole switch as it would need to interrupt both up and down conductors.
