Bath exhaust fans

Does anyone else here have a problem with bath exhaust fans being noisy once their operational.

I’m installing fans that are under 1.0 Sone . Due to the poor practice of the HVAC contractors in venting them they are excessively loud once they are put into service.

The issue always seems to fall back on me since I’m the one who supplied the fan.

I’m getting to the point where I’m no longer going to provide them as part of my bid.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

We use Panasonic fans exclusively. The 2 biggest issues to cause excessive noise seem to be HVAC contractor installing 90 immediately at outlet and using screws to connect duct preventing damper from opening.

If you don’t mind my asking what model do you use for a fan / light combo in 80CFM ?

I’ve used Panasonic in the past. I found that even with the proper ducting they still seemed louder than their Sone rating would suggest.

Are you finding the units you use are performing to the sound levels advertised?

Not sure about Mr Swartz but we use the FV-0511VQL1 where we need a fan/light combo.

They're super quiet with the right install. We have had call backs where the client doesn't even think it's working because it's so quiet.

Lately we have been using the FV-0511VQ1. We also use the FV-0511VKS. Both of those are 3 speed units (50-80-110). For larger bathrooms we use the larger 150cfm models. Seldom do we use fan/light combos. I usually talk people into a separate recessed light(s).

I have had a couple GC's tell me that homeowners have complained that the fan is not running because they can hear it.

I know Panasonic was making some cheaper and louder fans for HD so stay away from those. Get the fans from a supply house.

We use the same fans and also rarely use fan/ lights. We do a separate recessed light.
