Bath Fan / Night Light & Title 24

I'm putting in a Panasonic FV-11VQL4. It is a fan / light / night light combination. My question is about California Title 24 compliance.

The regular built-in light is fluorescent, no Title 24 problem. The night light is incandescent. It is a 4 watt bulb. So, reading the Title 24 Residential Compliance Manual, Table 6-1, this lamp needs to put out 40 lumens per watt, or 160 lumens. It's not even close, it puts out something like 19 lumens.

So, how do I make the light functional and comply with Title 24. Putting it on an occupancy sensor seems dumb, it will shut off after 30 mins.

Ordinarily, I don't think the inspector would care about 4 watts. My previous experience with this inspector leads me to believe he'll be very rigorous.

Has anyone figured out a creative solution for Title 24 compliance with a night light in a bathroom?

Thanks.

I never hook up the night light and there is no issue. I don't need to worry about Title 24 and just hate the extra switch.

I doubt you get relief if using a more efficient lamp because it is still an screw type base and the lamp type could be changed. But I bought some C7 LED Christmas lights for just this purpose. They draw 1 watt and seem to make about the same light as a normal incandescent C7 (I have no specs for lumen output). These cost about $2 each (got 25 for about $45 IIRC).

An incandescent bulb will never meet the required efficacy requirements.

Now, I am obviously not your inspector, but assuming that the rest of the house complied, I'm not really going to get to worked up about a 4 watt bulb. It's not really any different than if they used a plug in night light.

If you think this inspector is going to be strict as to the letter of the standards, you should probably talk to him first and not just spring it on him.

Hey dude they do make an led night light. You can probably get them in Home Depot. I think they come in two packs. Im not sure of the lumens but the wattage is in the milla watts. I think feit makes them. Im sure this will solve your dilema

I agree with the talking to the inspector up front.
I have never had a problem with the 4-watt nightlights.

If the inspector really wants to push the 4-watt, you
could put it an occupancy sensor that has a nightlight
(which is high-efficacy e.g. WattStopper CN-100
http://www.wattstopper.com/getdoc/336/C-190 CNCW_0805.pdf
), technically comply and still have a nightlight. I agree
this is dumb and would only do it as a last resort.

Same here - Most won't sweat T-24 items on the small stuff - some often ignore the big stuff - many think it is just as stupid as most of us do. Then again there are some who'll throw on the jack-boots and balance a log on their shoulder because they can.... And for those - you make no mention of it to them, and make them find the night light on their own. Play dumb if they find it and act as if you are being educated by the all seeing - all knowing WIZ..... ;)

FYI this would not comply, as by the letter of the code (T24) it would need to be a non interchangable base....

Is there such a thing as a LED nightlite lamp?
Absolutely. I have some in use right now, and a package in my hand.

They're Feit Electric brand, called Eternalite LED, model No. BPC7/LED.

I believe I got them at Home DIYpo. Want the barcode number?

Added: Mine are white, but they apparently come in other colors, such as green and red.
