I have to replace an old bath fan light combo (Old work). It’s originally wire with two 14-2 from the bathrooms four gang switch box. At the fan a black from one 14-2 goes to the fan, and the black from the other cable goes to the light. From one 14-2 they spliced the white to the white of the fan, and from the other 14-2 they spliced the white of the white of the light. The four gang only has one feed. Is there any issue doing it this way? I typically run a 14-3 and call it a day.

Like rc/retired stated it is not a problem. Normally a sparky will use 14/3 cable to feed a fan/ light combo. More fun when a customer wants a bathroom ceiling fan with a heater & a light. I always had 12/4 MC cable for commercial jobs that I would use for such fan combinations.

No problem with this. I suspect the installer didn't have any 14-3, or maybe didn't even know it existed, which suggests homeowners or handyman.
