Anyone care to post their method for installing bath fans in suspended TBar type ceilings? I've been tek screwing a Caddy T-Grid box hanger to each side of the bath fan and clipping the assembly onto the grid. Anyone have a better, more preferred, or faster method?

Thanks.

Re: Bath fans in suspended ceilings

Fan rated box is suspended from the upper ceiling with 3/8" rod. Chop saw and treated 2x4's cut to 24" wedged across the top of the lift out tile and screwed to each side of the box. Send drywall screws thru the t-bar sides into the ends of the 2x4s. Holds the box real steady in place, but the rod is doing all the support.

Mudshunk, I am sorry for the above post, I read it late last night in a hurry, and thought it was ceiling fans, when your post was clear about bath fans. Metal bottom channel from steel stud walls is also a good way to support stuff like this, if bent and attached properly. It also has the benefit of not being combustible in a fire.

Sure, I let the HVAC contractor mount it when they vent it. :D

If that does not work I have used Tek-screws and steel stud track.

In wood frame buildings I have seen wood strapping used.

The Caddy bar method you have been doing sounds pretty good.

Yeah! :D In a perfect world, that's how it would be. I'm not sure why or how, but I mostly end up mounting these. I've been bull headed a few times and just wired them up and let them hang in mid air with a piece of tie wire until someone else mounts them. I don't understand why the bath fan folks can't make some better mounting method for drop ceilings.
